dearVR PRO 2

dearVR PRO 2 is a spatializer plugin for multi-channel, binaural and Ambisonics formats, supporting 35 multi-channel output formats up to 9.1.6 and up to third-order Ambisonics output. It also incorporates an early reflection and reverb engine, with dedicated high-pass and low-pass filters for shaping both the early reflections and the late reverb tail. A graphical XYZ pad gives direct 360° control over sound position, including placement behind the loudspeakers thanks to genuine distance simulation rather than a single fixed spherical plane, and a new stereo input with width control extends that same positioning to stereo stem recordings. Head tracking is available either through Dear Reality's own Spatial Connect VR controller or, new to this version, any third-party OSC head tracker via the included Spatial Connect Adapter.

history

dearVR PRO 2 comes from Dear Reality, a 3D audio software company founded in Düsseldorf in 2014 by Achim Fell and Christian Sander, and acquired by Sennheiser in 2019. It launched in January 2024 as the successor to the original dearVR PRO from 2017, priced at $199 (with an introductory rate of $149), with existing dearVR PRO owners able to upgrade for $79. In March 2025, Sennheiser announced it was consolidating all its immersive audio initiatives and ending Dear Reality's operation as an independent company, discontinuing further development of the dearVR plugin range, including PRO 2, and instead making most of the plugins available free of charge to anyone registering for the Sennheiser AMBEO newsletter, with existing paid licences deactivated on 31 July 2025.
