d&b Soundscape En-Scene

d&b En-Scene is the d&b Soundscape software module for object-based signal management. This extends the basic matrix function of the DS100 sound processor with an object-based positioning tool for every input. En-Scene lets you position up to 64 sound objects and features an algorithm-based control of up to 64 loudspeakers, based on loudspeaker positions and on their assignment to function groups, with each loudspeaker position requiring one matrix output. Users can freely choose which input channels work object-based and which remain on the static matrix, and both modes can run simultaneously within the same DS100. Loudspeaker positions and function groups are configured through d&b's ArrayCalc and R1 software, and En-Scene can also be controlled via OSC, allowing object-based positioning to be integrated into third-party audio software, show control systems or mixing consoles directly. It's designed to work alongside En-Space, d&b's companion room-emulation module, which uses boundary plane emulation drawn from acoustic measurements of internationally renowned performance venues to add matching reverberation to positioned objects.

history

+

En-Scene has been one of the two core software modules of d&b Soundscape, the German manufacturer d&b audiotechnik's object-based audio ecosystem, alongside the room-emulation module En-Space, both built around the Dante-enabled DS100 Signal Engine. The platform has been steadily expanded since launch: updates around 2020–2021 added hardware-based Scene memory for storing DS100 and Soundscape parameters as recallable snapshots, new room signatures for En-Space, and a configurable Spread factor for En-Scene's function groups. In 2025, d&b restructured the DS100 line around scalable I/O sizes and doubled the number of available function groups, and, as part of that update, made En-Scene a standard, pre-installed feature on every new DS100 rather than an optional add-on, aiming to bring object-based Soundscape mixing to smaller venues such as houses of worship and clubs, as well as larger productions like musical theatre.
