Dolby Atmos Production Tools

The Dolby Atmos Production Tools are a suite of software designed to create, mix and master immersive audio for a Dolby Atmos environment from start to finish, from production to final encoding in Dolby formats. Rather than functioning as a standalone DAW, the software runs as infrastructure alongside an existing production environment, receiving audio and positional metadata from the DAW and rendering it to the actual speaker configuration in the room, before producing the ADM BWF file that represents the finished Atmos master. On macOS, audio is routed from the DAW to the renderer via Dolby Audio Bridge on a single machine; on Windows, the renderer runs on a separate computer, with a hardware solution handling audio routing between the two.

history

+–

Dolby originally split its Atmos content-creation tools into two separate products: the Dolby Atmos Production Suite, aimed at Pro Tools users wanting a complete in-the-box way to monitor Atmos content without an external rendering unit, and the more comprehensive Dolby Atmos Mastering Suite, which bundled in the Home Theater Renderer software and the Atmos Conversion Tool. In March 2023, Dolby consolidated both into a single application, the Dolby Atmos Renderer, priced at $299 (with a limited-time $99 rate for Pro Tools Studio and Ultimate subscribers), and offered existing Production or Mastering Suite users a $50 upgrade path. The unified Renderer carried over every feature from both legacy products and added native Apple Silicon support, 96kHz ADM BWF handling, retained trim and downmix settings between sessions, and features previously reserved for Mastering Suite customers only, including Room EQ, Array Mode, remote connectivity and Windows compatibility, addressing user confusion about how the two older products differed and lowering the overall cost of entry into Atmos production.
