Auro3D Professional Tools

The Professional Tools by Auro-3D are a group of plug-ins that let the user mix, refine, test and finally encode their Auro-3D audio productions for cinema, broadcasting, videogames and much more. The suite includes the Auro-Matic Pro up-mixer, which uses a variety of early reflection patterns to build a 5.1 or 7.1 sound field from mono or stereo sources without disturbing the original mix's intended aesthetics, alongside Basic and Advanced Authoring Tools for encoding finished productions, and a dedicated Export plug-in. Available in AAX, VST3 and AU formats, the tools support the full range of Auro-3D speaker layouts, from Auro 9.1 and 10.1 through to Auro 11.1 and 13.1 for cinema, and the object-based AuroMax 22.1 and 26.1 configurations, all at high-resolution audio quality up to 96kHz/24-bit.

history

+

Auro-3D was conceived in 2005 by Wilfried Van Baelen, CEO and founder of Galaxy Studios, the recording and film mixing facility he and his brother Guy had built in Mol, Belgium since 1980. Van Baelen presented the concept publicly for the first time in 2006, at Audio Engineering Society conventions in both Paris and San Francisco, as part of a workshop on surround sound with added height channels, introducing the earliest Auro 9.1 and 10.1 layouts. The cinema-specific 11.1 and 13.1 formats followed in 2010, unveiled at a spatial sound conference in Tokyo, the same year the Van Baelen brothers formally founded Auro Technologies as a spin-off of Galaxy Studios, together with partner Alfred Schefenacker, with the explicit goal of establishing a next-generation audio standard. The Professional Tools have been developed alongside the format ever since, expanding over the following years to support the object-based AuroMax layouts and the wider Creative Tools Suite used across broadcast, music, cinema, home entertainment, automotive, gaming and mobile production today.
